Built by a photographer, for photographers

Co-owner Mark Eadie has photographed in Winnipeg since 2014, and he chose this loft for the light. East-facing windows flood the hall with soft morning light, and white columns, brick walls and hardwood floors give you a dozen backdrops in one room.

The prep room has a Hollywood vanity mirror for hair and makeup. Antique furniture, a velvet lounge set and a tufted chaise are ready to use as props.

Questions and answers

When is the light best?

The windows face east, so mornings are the brightest. Late morning into early afternoon gives soft, even light across the hall.

Is there studio lighting?

The room is built around natural light. Bring your own strobes or continuous lights; power is available throughout.

Can we film video here?

Yes. Music videos, interviews, brand films and social content are all welcome.

Is there a place for hair and makeup?

Yes. The private prep room has a Hollywood vanity mirror with full surround lighting, a sofa and a kitchenette.

How do vendors load in?

Through the rear alley. A 6 x 7 foot service elevator rises from the loading dock straight into the suite, so caterers, florists and rental companies can bring in equipment easily. Vendors load in during your booked hours.

How long can we book?

Anywhere from one to twelve hours, in one hour blocks. Events wrap by 10pm, and cleanup can run later. If your event runs over, overtime is $250 per half hour.

How much does it cost?

Rentals start at $275 for one hour, and the hourly rate drops the longer you book: 3 hours is $475, 4 hours is $600, 5 hours is $700, 8 hours is $950 and 12 hours is $1,200. See every rate.

Where do guests park?

Several public lots sit within half a block of 70 Albert Street. Street parking is free for two hours on Saturdays and free all day Sunday. The venue is two blocks from City Hall and a short walk from Portage and Main, with transit nearby.

Is the venue accessible?

The Harlow Exchange is on the second floor of an 1880 heritage building. Guests enter at the corner of Albert Street and McDermot Avenue and climb about 25 stairs. A 6 x 7 foot service elevator runs from the rear alley loading dock, which sits about 3.5 feet above the alley, so it is set up for vendor load-in. If a guest has mobility needs, call us at (204) 400-5700 before booking and we will plan it together.

Can we see the space before booking?

Yes. Start with the four minute virtual tour. To walk the loft in person, request a private viewing and we will set a time.
